Chronic pain patients often drop out of social life. Since pain is an individual experience that is strongly influenced by very personal genetic, social and environmental influences, its diagnosis and therapy are very complex.
The project Bio²Treat aims to provide patients who are suffering from chronic pain with an improved diagnosis and, as a second step, to arrange individual, effective and personalised therapy.
Innovative methods are used: patient-specific, induced, pluripotent stem cells and neurons derived from them, quantitative sensory testing and a "Pain Watch", a smartphone / smartwatch combination that collects biometric data. This data is then used to create software that, with the help of machine learning, can facilitate diagnosis and predict personalized therapies in the medium term.
